On March 8, 2023, the P.R.C. acceded to the Convention Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents (hereinafter referred to as the Apostille Convention). On November 7, 2023, the Apostille Convention will enter into force for the P.R.C..

Canada acceded to the Apostille Convention on May 12, 2023, and the Convention will come into effect in Canada on January 11, 2024. Before that, the existing practice of authentication of public documents between China and Canada shall be maintained, Chinese Embassy and Consulates-General in Canada shall keep accepting the application for authentication.
